Remember We Do Landscaping Too!

St. Louis Lawn Care is not only a lawn service company, we also do landscaping in St. Louis.

Once this rain dries up a little bit we will be starting on retaining wall in Crestwood.  We are replacing a rotten rail road tie wall with concrete block.  This is surrounding part of a pool and we need to be extra careful because of all of the pipes running to and from the pump.  The customer is in great hands with St. Louis Lawn Care.  We be sure to be extra careful and clean when performing any work on our customers property.

We have experience with all kinds of landscaping.

Here are some tips for helping your landscape project go smoothly:

  • Be sure that the landscaper will work with you every step of the way - Many landscapes can take days, weeks, or even months.  We work with the customer every step of the way, we will let you know if we are on schedule or running a little behind.  We keep you informed of the landscaping project from the time it starts until the time it is finished.
  • Discuss what problems might arise during the landscape project - While a project will have a plan at the start, that plan almost always changes due to unforeseen problems under the ground.  Landscaping involves a lot of digging, and many times there are object that were buried that no one knew were there when we do a landscaping project.  We try to communicate with the customer about any problems that we might come across while doing their landscaping project.
  • Comunicate - Communication is key.  If the project is rolling a long and you see a part of the design that you don't like, or something you want moved it is best to let the landscaper know as soon as possible.  It is also very important for the landscaper to communicate to you if he thinks something would look better that what was originally planned.  If the customer and landscaper can communicate during the landscape project.  The project will most likely go very smooth.
St. Louis Lawn Care works as hard as we can to provide the best service at the best price to our customers.  We like the enjoyment of great looking outdoor spaces.

We do everything from mulch, sod, landscape installations, retaining walls and much more.

Spring Lawn Service

So, we are in January and there is not much to do for the lawn here in St. Louis.  You can start shopping around to different lawn care services to see who will make the best match for you.

Start to get your lawn cleaned up for spring, because before you know it the grass is going to be growing like crazy.

If you do your own lawn be sure to get the first application of fertilizer ready, because that time will be here before you know it.  Especially if the weather stays this warm.  You will need to get the pre-emergent fertilizer down before the crabgrass starts to germinate.  Putting the pre-emergent down on your lawn at the right time will prevent crabgrass from germinating and protect your lawn from crabgrass taking over.  Once the crabgrass germinates it is very hard to get rid of.

This first fertilizer application brings your lawn out of dormancy and provides it with much needed nutrients that it will need for the spring growing season in St. Louis.

Do You Know What Your Lawn Needs?

Do you need lime?
Do you need fertilizer?
Do you need organic matter?

You don't know without a soil test.  Be very skeptical of a lawn care company that tries to sell you a lime treatment without testing your soil first.

A soil test will tell you everything you need to know about your soil.  It will analyze the Ph level, different amounts of chemicals, sediments and micro organisms in your soil.  By having your soil tested you will be able to tell what nutrients your lawn needs.  Some nutrients such as potassium and phosphorus can stay in your lawn year after year.  Having too much of an element can do more harm to your lawn than it does good.

The only way to really know what your lawn needs is to get a soil test done every couple of years.  This will allow you to adjust your fertilizer applications to fit what your lawn needs.

Here in St. Louis we have a lot of clay soil, so a soil test and analysis will tell you the composition of your soil.  Clay is very dense and grass struggles in a totally clay soil.  Adding sand and/or compost can break up the clay and provide a great base for your lawn to thrive.

St. Louis Lawn Care does provide soil tests to residential customers.  Call today if you would like us to come by have your soil tested.

Happy New Year Snow

It has been quite a while since I have posted but I will try to get into a better habit of keeping up with the blog this year.

Thank you very much for reading and I very much appreciate feedback and discussing all things lawn care.

Now that we are in the winter months there is not much to do on the lawn care side of things, but the snow is falling and we are out plowing all over the St. Louis area. One benefit of hiring St. Louis Lawn Care for your snow plowing needs is that you will receive top notch customer service. Most snow removal companies in St. Louis love to salt and plow your lot even though it doesn't need it. We know you need to keep costs down so we only service your lot if it absolutely needs servicing.

This past snow we had was very tricky. The bottom layer was melting. It snowed New Years Eve, and most businesses are closed new years day so most of the snow melted on its own and many lots did not need salting or plowing. But, there were many companies out and about putting down unnecessary chemicals and charging customers for services that they don't need.

If you feel that your current snow removal service provider does not care about your expenses give us a call and we will work out a plan to service your property for ice and snow.
