St. Louis Lawn Care Tips for the Week of December 10, 2007

It looks like winter is officially here in St. Louis, MO. All of the Christmas lights are going up, the lawns have stopped growing and do not need any more mows, or cuts, and we have had our first round of freezing precipitation. If you aerated your yard in the fall then this rain is great for your grass. The holes that the aerator pulled, allows the water to reach the roots of the lawn.

A great thing about winter lawn care is that the best thing you can do, is do nothing at all. The grass is dormant during the winter, but it is still living. Be sure to keep your lawn clear of debris, toys, limbs, etc. By keeping your lawn clear of debris, this will allow the grass to take full advantage of the winter sun.

The rain and snow that we usually get in St. Louis throughout the winter should provide your lawn with enough water for it to remain healthy. But, if we have an unusually dry winter here in St. Louis make sure to give it some water. One inch a week should do.

Now that the lawns are not growing and the grass does not need cutting and mowing, I will try to keep up with the weekly tips for growing a healthy lawn in St. Louis, Missouri.

If you have any questions about your lawn do not hesitate to contact me. Call Tim at 314-974-5911, or e-mail Tim@Stllawncare.com

It is amazing that not all of the leaves have fallen from the trees. The strange weather this fall in St. Louis has kept the leaves on the trees much longer than the average fall season. If all of the leaves have fallen off of your trees be sure to clear them off of your lawn. St. Louis Lawn Care can clean up the leaves and give you one last cut to prepare your lawn for the harsh St. Louis winter.

The grass has stopped growing and the lawns should be mowed one last time for the winter. Mowing your lawn before the dormant season will allow your lawn to get the much needed moisture throughout the winter.

If you need your lawn mowed one last time before winter, give St. Louis Lawncare a call. Call Tim at 314-974-5911

Most of the Leaves Have Fallen

It looks like most of the leaves have fallen from the trees and are all over the lawns. There is still time before the first snow to get them cleaned up.

I cleaned up a few yards this past week and the lawns looked beautiful after they were completed. By removing the leaves this allows the grass to get much needed sunlight during the winter months.

I am also giving the lawns the final cut and mow for the season. It is crucial to cut the grass after it stops growing to get the grass at the right height for the St. Louis winter.

St. Louis Fall Lawn Care Tips and Leaf Removal Service

It looks like the lawns have really slowed down, but don't forget about them. It is still crucial that you give your lawn a periodic watering to keep the roots of your grass healthy. Even though the grass is not growing the roots are spreading underground.

Since your lawn is still growing below ground, keep the falling leaves raked so they don't pile up and suffocate your grasses' roots. Some of your leaves fall late in the autumn. Give a final good raking, sometimes even after the first snowfall has melted. Leaves lying on your lawn all winter can prevent water from reaching the grass or trap too much moisture, causing grasses to rot and die by spring.

The Leaves have really started to fall. There was one yard that I aerated in West County, and I could barely see the grass because the leaves were so thick.

The grass is still growing in the St. Louis area. The weather has been nice enough to keep the grass growing for a few more weeks. There is still time to have your lawn aerated before the winter months.

Remember, now is the time to put on the winterizer fertilizer and start preparing your lawn for the harsh St. Louis winter.

Remember St. Louis Lawncare for your fall lawn clean up. We will remove the leaves from your lawn and give it one final mow for the season.

St. Louis Lawn Care Tips for November 3, 2007

Week of November 3, 2007

There were two lawns that I aerated in West County in the past week and these lawns were watered perfectly for aerating. When aerating it is best to give your lawn a little soaking before aeration. This allows the tines on the aerator to pull deep plugs from the lawn. Pulling deep tines will allow better relief of lawn compaction.

It is getting towards the end of the season for overseeding your lawn, but the ground is still warm enough to promote germination. The days are still warm and will keep the ground warm enough for the seed to grow. If you are unable to overseed in the fall it is still fine to overseed in early spring.

The grass is starting to slow down and if the weather cools off and there should only be a few more lawn cuts for the season.

The leaves are starting to fall and it is time to start cleaning those leaves off the lawn. Removing the leaves from the grass in the fall will make your lawn look better, but will also clear your lawn of any debris that may smother the grass and prevent it from getting off to a good start in the spring.

St. Louis Lawn Fall Clean Up

Now that the weather is cooling off, the leaves are staring to turn colors and will begin to fall from the trees and suffocate your lawn. Do not let your lawn gasp for air all winter long. Clear the leaves and let your lawn breath and get ready for the growing season in the spring.

Clearing you lawn of leaves will not only make your lawn look better, it will also give it a head start in the spring. By letting leaves cover your yard all winter long will smother the grass and will not promote strong root growth.

Let St. Louis Lawn Care take care of those pesky leaves. St. Louis Lawn Care will clean the leaves from your lawn and flower beds and give them some much needed relief for the upcoming winter.

Thank the Rain

For additional information on lawn care in St. Louis visit http://www.stllawncare.com/

There is nothing like a little rain to revive a burnt lawn. This past rain in St. Louis should do wonders for your lawn. It should bring back the green color and help it grow. Remember during these dry periods to not over water your lawn. A lawn will bounce back with just a little water. You do not have to drench your water every day. This will prevent proper root growth and do more harm than good.

Remember it is time to start thinking about fall aerating and overseeding for your lawn. For more information visit http://www.stllawncare.com/or call Tim at 314-974-5911

Your Lawn in the Hot St. Louis Summer

You may think that your lawn cannot take this hot St. Louis summer without a lot of water. But be careful, dumping a ton of water may hurt your lawn more than it helps. By throwing a lot of water on your lawn, your lawn is unable to establish a good root system. In this hot St. Louis weather you should water about every other night, or very, very early in the morning. Just being able to maintain your lawn through the hot summers that St. Louis brings will make your lawn great in the fall and the following spring.
